Hello! My name is Heather and I am the baker behind Sunrise Sourdough. I am a full time first grade teacher and homestead momma to several chickens, ducks, and goats. I enjoy canning, gardening, and knitting when I’m not baking up a storm.
Over the years, I have come to realize that so much of the food in our grocery stores is packed with chemicals and preservatives to prolong shelf life. This became clear to me after finding a loaf of bread in the back of my pantry a month past the date with no mold or sign of decay. I just knew there had to be another way.
In early 2024, I was gifted my first sourdough starter and haven’t looked back since! After months and months of terrible loaves, failed recipes, and sleepless nights waiting to shape ill timed loaves, I found myself turning a corner. The more I learned about the science of baking and practiced my techniques, the better and more consistent my loaves became in taste and in appearance.
A strange thing also started to happen, the storm inside my soul began to calm. With every loaf I gifted to a friend, shared with a coworker, or baked to feed my family, it became clear to me that this isn’t just about bread. It’s also about fellowship. Food brings everyone together!
I believe that the Lord put us on this earth to serve Him and to serve one another. As a baker, my intention is to serve my community, the many I am blessed to be a part of, with good, preservative free breads that people can feel good about purchasing and feeding to their families. Baking bread to sell with the intention of making a few dollars is easy. It’s easy to find cheap, low quality ingredients that can be marked up to raise your profits. I refuse to operate in this way. At Sunrise Sourdough, we will always use the highest quality ingredients and serve delicious foods at an affordable price.
I consider every loaf baked, every family served, and every connection made with our community to be a blessing. So, in thinking of a name for this venture, I wanted to find something that gave credit to our Creator. Psalms 113:3 says “From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised!”. And so, Sunrise Sourdough came to be. An ever reminder that blessings can be found, He can be found, in every sunrise and every sunset life has to offer.
Thank you for taking this journey with me, and for allowing me to serve you and your family. It is an honor.
